Mega Match This – no longer winner takes all!


The beginning of another year is here, and with that, so too is the 2012 Maver Mega ‘Match This’ event.

Phil Briscoe, Maver (UK) Managing Director, has again guaranteed the winner of this year’s event a minimum of £50,000. In addition to this, Phil has announced that, providing ticket sales for this year’s event allows, the competition will also aim to pay £5000 to second place and £3000 to third placed anglers (subject to change). So the competition is no longer a ‘winner takes all event’ – there is opportunity for others to walk away with cash.

Phil commented: “We took on board the comments and feedback from last year and responded by providing yet more incentives for anglers to enter this prestigious event. By offering anglers a greater opportunity to walk away from this year’s final with a considerable financial reward, we hope the competition will appeal to more people and ensure that the event is even bigger and better.”

This announcement comes after the decision was also made to replace the runner’s-up final with a team championship event taking place on Sunday 2nd September, which will see the winning team walk away with a cheque for £3,000. Again, as with the main individual final, second and third placed teams will also receive cash prizes.

This year’s campaign begins on Saturday 7th April at Woodlands View, Droitwich and concludes with the 2012 ‘Match This’ Final at Maver Larford Lakes on Saturday 1st September.

Last year’s event was a huge success, not only for Maver as a company, but also for the sport as a whole with new levels of media attention and public interest promoting fishing as a competitive sport to unprecedented new heights.  The Maver (UK) team are incredibly proud of what was achieved but, there is no time to reflect on the success of last year with ticket sales for the 2012 campaign having gone on sale as of 1st January and selling immediately.
